What's in Your Handbag?

Do you always have a book in your handbag? If you can't leave home without something to read, then "What's In Your Handbag?" is the post for you! Every Friday, I will be posting what book is currently in my purse. I would love to know what books are in your handbag this week, so leave a comment below telling me - or if you post it on your site, leave the link in the comments so I can go read about it!

Our local bookstore just got in a new shipment (a huge new shipment) of used library books and I found this lovely book on the shelves! This week I will be reading It Only Takes a Moment by Mary Jane Clark to finish of my month of mystery/thriller/spooky type books!

Since tomorrow is Halloween, I will watch scary movies and eat candy (and pass some out!) It's kind of my lame tradition and I do it solo (except for my dog Mooch). I've already put scary movies on the top of my Netflix Que and stocked up on Milk Duds and Wine :)

So readers, what's in your handbag? Do you have any Halloween traditions?

So this week I am reading Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. I know....I am so behind the times! Anyways, I caved and bought the UK version because I absolutely love that cover! I know not everyone is a fan of that cover, but I love it!

GUEST POST: *Another* Another Faust Contest

Hi Everyone! Below is a guest post from Daniel Nayeri, co-author of Another Faust with his sister Dina. Read on to hear about a great contest that they are hosting!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Another* Another Faust Contest

Hi everyone. Dina and I are about to kick off a month-long tour for our book, Another Faust, and we want to do it by announcing a contest! We are looking for the most promising writers out there (that’s YOU). And then we want to showcase their work, so that all of the Internet can bask in their awesome writing might (and, you know, give them prizes).

HERE’S HOW IT GOES.

We want you to write your own short story, re-imagining of the Faustian Bargain. (For inspiration, check out Bedazzled, Simpsons “Tree House of Horrors IV,” and The Little Mermaid). It can be about anything you like (but let’s keep it PG-13, and under 3,000 words), and it’s open to everyone.

All you have to do is send your entry to dviergutz@gmail.com before January 31.

Rules and details can be found here:
http://www.danielanddina.com/site/2009/10/writing-contest-create-another-another-faust/

Make sure to read them so you don’t get DQed

And the winner gets all kinds of sweetness:

A signed copy of Another Faust
A handwritten deleted scene
A featured article & interview on our site
An author’s galley of the sequel Another Pan

Though we’ll feature the top five on our site for comments, the judging WON’T happen by popular vote (so basically, we don't care which contestant has the most friends). Dina and I will personally read them.

So, spread the word! Tweet, retweet, forward, thread, spread, embed this post.

Good luck!

D&D

This week, I'm very excited to be reading Lily Dale: Discovering by the amazing Wendy Corsi Staub! I absolutely LOVE this series of book and each year, I anxiously await the release date....although I am a little bummed that this cover does not match my other covers :( but I am willing to live with it since I actually am in love with this cover! These books always go by so fast for me, and I'm always sad when I finish them....but then again I feel that way after I read any of Wendy's books!

So readers, what's in your handbag?

This week I'm reading The Witches of Eastwick by John Updike. The reason I got this book is because I am now obsessed with the show Eastwick on ABC. This kind of stuff fascinates me, so I am really looking forward to getting into this book! I also ordered The Widows of Eastwick, so I will probably give that a try as well.

So readers, what's in your handbag?

October is my month to pick the Booking NY to NC book club book, so I picked The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry! I'll admit, I first was interested in this book for the cover and then I read the synopsis and I knew it would be the perfect book to read in October. It sounds appropriately suspenseful for my favorite month of the year (and the scariest!). I can't wait to curl up in my jammies with some cocoa and get into this book!
